Despite many people having lived in the UK for their entire lives, few people have been outside of their local area on holiday and instead choose to venture abroad.
However, those who do so are missing out on the great attractions the country has to offer, according to Sarah Long, spokeswoman for VisitEngland.
She noted that staycations – where people holiday in the UK and venture to places they have not seen before – are becoming increasingly popular as people look for a different kind of holiday.
People could use cash loans to take a trip to areas of the UK they may not have visited and see just why more people are choosing to stay on these shores for their vacation.
Ms Long explained that 2009 was the start of what people are calling the staycation.
"It was as a direct result of the credit crunch. That gave those people who took a holiday at home - who wouldn't usually have taken one, the opportunity to rediscover a destination on their doorstep," she added.
